In elementary school students were taught about
the president that was assassinated, As far as anyone
knew, this president, the 16th president of the United
States, Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes
Booth at Ford’s Theater. Other presidents that had
also been assassinated or had attempts on their
lives were not known and it would not be until
college before anyone knew of other attempts.
Most of the young men and women to include
children living in the 1950;s and early 60’s had
not experienced any form of political anarchy,
This all changed like a bolt of lightning on a
fateful day in Dallas in 1963. President John
Kennedy had been assassinated and the world
watched it unfold on television. The simple innocent
world that was America following World
War II came to a screeching halt. America was
no longer immune from political killings. We had fallen
to the level of political assassinations that were present
in South America, Viet Nam and Cambodia.
