Starting again: small steps, still striving

In April, I told you about my plan to shed a few pounds
by mid-August. It was a reasonable goal, fueled by memories
of earlier success and the desire to feel healthier.
Maybe you’ve had a goal like that, too – one that
looked doable on paper, but real life got in the
way.
Yes, mid-August has come and gone. And let’s
just say the results weren’t quite the success story
I’d imagined. On a good day, my scale claims
I’m down two pounds. On a bad day, it flashes a
number I haven’t seen in years – gasp.
I know the scale isn’t the ultimate judge of
health, but still, it’s discouraging when it feels as
if all our labors yield little progress. Truthfully,
though, I can’t say I’ve given it my full effort. I
let busyness serve as an all-too-handy excuse.
My old habits, briefly shaken, quickly regrouped and
marched right back into my routine.
