PUTIN THE PLAYER
In 1989 the world turned upside down. After thirty-
five years of fear, simulated nuclear attacks and worries
of a world war like was never experienced, the world
was free to sigh a breath of fresh air as the Soviet Union
collapsed. The collapse was no slow methodical
decline; it was quick and it was complete.
In East Germany, the geographical area under
Soviet control, the Soviet Union’s foreign
intelligence and domestic security agency had
agencies open. This was the dreaded KGB.
In Dresden, as in other areas of the collapsing
communist machine, angry crowds and
mobs were attacking soviet offices. A mob approached
the local KGB office. A plea for help
was sent to Moscow. The response was shocking
to the man that originated the message.
“Moscow is silent” was what the KGB agent heard. This
left a lasting impression on the man as if the message
was branded into his brain.
