Treasures. Last week we spoke of treasures we had for sale at our rummage/benefit sale. Again, we thank you for shopping/helping.
There are many others outside our area that are God’s helpers, also. Take former police officer, husband and father of 3, Anderson “Chase” Childers, who died recently saving multiple swimmers from a rip-current on Pawley’s Island, SC. “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” – John 15:13
Lifeguards are treasures, too. Lifeguards on Newport Beach, CA rescued 10 people over the 4th of July weekend from rip currents. British lifeguards also rescued people from the rip currents at a Cornish beach. And lifeguards on the Outer Banks of NC & Emerald Isle, NC saved 15 people from rip currents over the Forth of July holiday. These people are definitely treasures to the rescued and to their families.
Firefighters and EMTs are courageous and often save people from dangerous situations, too. 9-11, 2001 comes to mind: .
Beyond the Call of Duty – The Twin Towers: 343 Final Acts of Courage
September 11, 2001, presented New York City firefighters with a scenario no training could have prepared them for. As the World Trade Center burned after terrorist attacks, 343 members of the FDNY made the conscious decision to climb into the burning towers, carrying up to 100 pounds of equipment up dozens of flights of stairs. In their final radio communications, not one firefighter was heard retreating—all were ascending, moving toward the danger, not away from it. (paraphrased from www.fforce.com
December 2021 finds us another treasure – Jim Finch. Mr. Finch lives in Tennessee, but drove to Mayfield, Kentucky with a grill and a truckload of food to feed devastated tornado victims. When asked by journalist Victor Ordoñez “why” he did this, Mr. Finch replied, “It just needed to be done.” He said, “I just came down here, trying to feed the people.” “Everybody’s talking about they’re sending up prayers and, you know, their well wishes and everything. You know, folks can’t eat no prayer. We gotta put something in their stomach. Give them something to hold on to. We know this as Hope.
Question: Do you know who is the very best “saver”? Who’s the very best giver of “Hope”? Who’s The Very Best Treasure? Jesus Christ is!
Matthew 6:20 “But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.”
Romans 15:13: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Our special choir music today was “Settled at the Cross”. Bro. Bubba’s message was from Psalms 139. The title was. ”Blessed Assurance”. The Psalm answers every basic question in life. Most people ask three questions: Who am I? Why am I here? Where am I going? We cannot completely know all about God, but he knows all about us. The Psalm was written by an humble shepherd, David, who was to become king. It seems David was in awe of God. He was acknowledging his omnipresence and omniscience. He knows all about us, what we are thinking and saying and what we are going to think and say. Even as Christians we often have thoughts that are less than honorable. We fail to be thankful and often complain even in the midst of the blessings God is pouring out on us. God knows all about us. He never sleeps. He knows all our tomorrow’s. There is nothing hidden from God. Yet, he still loves us and has mercy on us. Such knowledge is too wonderful for us to understand. We cannot understand his greatness, his glory or his love and mercy, even though we don’t deserve it. David is praising God. In verses 17 through 22, David is acknowledging those who reject God .Which will you be?

Romans 15:1-7 – We then who are strong ought to bear with the scruples of the weak, and not to please ourselves. The message of Jesus and the apostles is that we must love one another. We do that by accepting one another. A Church is built through the sovereign work of God. As we work through our differences, preventing problems, our fellowship will approve. We are all accepted because of what Christ did on the cross (Ephesians 1:6). When we were saved, we got another chance – Not because of ‘me’, but because of Christ.
Through His sovereign work, I accept others as Christ accepted ‘me’. As Believers, in spite of riches, race, or denomination, we show no preference. Jews first, but Gentiles were later accepted through Grace, as HE does each of us. Denomination should not separate us, keeping us from fellowshipping with one another. As Christians, in all things have fervent love for one another accepting one another. Let each of us please his neighbor for his good promotes togetherness in the ‘family’, strengthening one another. We operate according to God’s Word, not the world. Even when we do not like what one does, we still love them.
We of the House of God, should behave as the People of God, in the Spirit of God, as we work together, accepting one another … anyway. As a ‘family’, we can be able to share our hearts. Being like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus; with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore receive one another, just as Christ also received us.
