Donald Trump, 26 Executive Orders first day

On January 20th, 2024, Donald John Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States of America. The inauguration was held inside of the United States Capitol Rotunda, due to the severe weather conditions of the time. This is the first time that an inauguration has been held inside in 40 years; the former being President Ronald Reagan’s inauguration in 1985.
Prior to the inauguration, on January 11th, Donald Trump was sentenced to a penalty-free ‘unconditional discharge’ due to his presidential status regarding his hush money trial in the New York court system. Donald Trump, now considered a convicted felon, will receive no further penalties.
President Trump signed a record-breaking 26 executive orders on January 20th as his first day in office. His first executive order was to rescind 78 executive actions implemented by the Biden Administration. The rescinded actions covered a wide range of topics. The targeted actions were aimed at advancing racial equity, combating gender discrimination, addressing climate change, mobilizing the federal response to the coronavirus pandemic, adding ethics requirements for political appointees, addressing the root causes of migration, lowering prescription drug costs, imposing sanctions on Israeli settlers accused of violence against Palestinians in the West Bank and the withdrawal of offshore drilling from certain areas.
In addition to repealing several progressive Biden Administration executive actions, Donald Trump also signed an executive order that invalidated birthright citizenship in the United States to peoples who have illegally immigrated to the United States. In an article released on the official White House website, titled “Protecting the Meaning and Value of American Citizenship,” the Presidential action explained that the United States would no longer recognize the citizenship of a person in the United States unless their birthparents were both lawfully residing in the United States. This includes when a mother is lawfully residing in the United States but the father is not a lawfully residing citizen.
“(c)Nothing in this order shall be construed to affect the entitlement of other individuals, including children of lawful permanent residents, to obtain documentation of their United States citizenship.”
Notably, in this section of the executive order, the exception is extended in particular to “children of lawful permanent residents.” This particular executive order is a heavy impact to the integrity of immigration, and allows for several loopholes to make becoming a citizen in the United States even more difficult than it already is.
Trump has again signed a letter to the United Nations to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement. This comes after his previous attempt to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement in June of 2017, which was rescinded by the Biden Administration.
Another executive order signed by the president delayed the ban of TikTok, a social media service that was previously being banned by the U.S. Governmentexplained vaguely for national security threats that were undisclosed by the several departments of government that originally signed on the banning. This decision comes after Donald Trumps previous attempt to ban TikTok back in 2020. In August of that year, the Trump Administration imposed emergency economic actions to impose crushing legislation on the application’s parent company ByteDance to urge them to sell the company to a United States originating company. Donald Trump’s outlook on the situation has flipped entirely, seemingly due to the overwhelming support that TikTok received from the American people.
In addition to these orders, Trump has signed several more including: an executive order stating government of the United States will only recognize two genders, an executive order rolling back on clean energy policies, an executive order establishing the “Department of Government Efficiency” (which effectively gives Elon Musk, the world’s richest man and CEO of Tesla and several other companies, office within the US Government), an executive order ending several diversity, equity, and inclusion programs, and an executive order to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.
These executive orders signed by the president can give the United States a taste of what the next four years will look like.
