Biden Withdraws
After a lackluster performance at the first presidential debate by incumbent President Biden, concerns arose regarding the president’s poor articulation of words and record-breaking age. Biden is currently the oldest United States President to be in office at 81 years of age. On July 21, 2024, Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential election. Biden is the first incumbent president since Lyndon B. Johnson in 1968 to not seek reelection, stating:
“…I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”
In a Twitter post, Biden commended Vice President Kamala Harris for her performance in office and announced his endorsement for her 2024 presidential platform, “My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made.” He continued, “Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of [the Democratic Party] this year.”
