Union Black Heritage Festival coming up

The 31st Annual Union Black Heritage festivities kick off Friday with the annual Black Heritage banquet, 6:30 p.m. at the Willie Davis, Jr. Recreation Center, 116 Cox Ferry Rd. in Farmerville.
The annual Black Heritage Festival will occur the following weekend, Feb. 16-17 at the courthouse parking lot in Farmerville.
Banquet tickets are $35 per person or $280 for a table for eight.
The festival will include booths and activities, culminating with the Black Heritage parade beginning at 1 p.m.

GSU spotlighted at museum during February

Grambling State University will be showcased in the Union Museum of History and Art in Farmerville beginning Saturday.
Grand opening events will be held on Saturday at 11:30 a.m., when local GSU alumni will greet visitors. The famed GSU Orchesis Dance Company will perform at noon. Coordinator of the exhibit is Adrienne Webber, Dean of the Digital Library and Learning Commons at Grambling. Dean Webber and GSU Interim Provost Dr. Roshunda Belton-Cardoza will be present at the opening event Saturday. The museum is located at 211 N. Main Street, Farmerville. Admission is free
The exhibit will focus on GSU programs, leadership, and educational opportunities, plus the history of the 122 year-old institution.

Sheriffs’ Scholarship Program Underway

The Louisiana Sheriffs’ Scholarship Program is accepting applications for its 2024 scholarship program.
Maximum of $1,000 each will be awarded to graduating high school students from each parish where the Sheriff is an affiliate of the Honorary Membership Program.
Applicants must be permanent residents of Louisiana; scholarships be utilized in higher education within the state of Louisiana; and students be enrolled as full-time, undergraduate students.
