Elmer Fernon “Bo” Craighead

Elmer Fernon “Bo” Craighead passed away on Friday, February 2nd, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 6th, 1935, in Start, LA, but became an icon of his Union Parish home. The first of 4 children born of William Joel “Buster” and Doshie Lee Kyle Craighead. Bo worked and played in many ventures during his long life such as fishing, logging, oil field, and a little truck driving, but he is likely most well-known for his contributions to the dirt track racing circuit. Even into his late 80’s he was still interested and enthusiastic to discuss an engine whether a new design or how to soup up an old one. Though he loved racing he was never in a race to end a good conversation or meal (preferably of some good ole Darbonne catfish).

He was preceded in death by his parent, and one daughter, Debbie Craighead Palmer. He is survived by his 2 remaining children, Ricky Fernon Craighead of Hope, AR and Linda Diane Cardin of Blackwell, OK, 6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Family, Friends, and all who knew him are invited to Sardis Baptist Church Fellowship Hall located at 367 Sardis Church Rd., Farmerville, LA 71241on Saturday, February 10th from 2-4pm for a memorial honoring his life. In remembering Bo, we will be inviting anyone with a story to share it at this memorial.
