Fred Wayne Futch

Fred Wayne Futch, 88 of Farmerville, Louisiana went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 23, 2023.  Fred was born October 16, 1935 in Spearsville, Louisiana to Joe R. (Bouy) Futch and Marie Smith Futch.  He graduated from Spearsville High School in 1954.  He would then go on to Louisiana Tech University where he would achieve a Bachelors, Masters and Plus 30 in Education and played baseball for the Bulldogs.  In 1989, he earned his Louisiana Licensed Professional Counselors certificate.  His first teaching position was at Farmerville High School in 1958.  While teaching, coaching football, baseball and basketball he also taught driver’s education in Union Parish for over 20 years.  Many of his students remember him as having lots of patience teaching them how to drive.  He retired from the Louisiana school system in 1981.  Ever eager to influence young minds, he began his career in Arkansas as a counselor and was later named principal at Huttig High School.  He also worked as a professional counselor and program manager at Hope Youth Ranch and Family New Life.  He continued to make a difference in many lives and worked up until the age of 82. 

He was passionate about a variety of sports.  He once made 99 free throws in a row at lunch recess at the Spearsville Gym.  Not only did he relish in everything sports related, he was an avid gardener, quail hunter, squirrel hunter, and fisherman, as well as raised squirrel dog feists, but what he lived for most was his family.  He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Nancy Peppers Futch of Farmerville, Louisiana.  They have one son, Shannon Futch and wife Lauren Futch and one daughter, Tiffany Albritton and husband Eddie Albritton all of Farmerville.  He was affectionally called “Popa by his four grandchildren, Nicole Futch Albritton, husband Von Albritton, Hunter Futch, wife Macie Futch of Farmerville, Luke Albritton, wife Elyse Albritton of Sterlington, Annmarie Albritton Murphy, husband Holden Murphy of Sterlington.  Thirteen great grandchildren, Trent Futch, Charlee Shriner, Kyrie Futch, Gracelynn Futch, Sophi Futch, Ava Rose Futch, Sadie Albritton, Remington Futch, Aly Britton Murphy, Everleigh Albritton, Claire Futch, River Murphy and Faith Albritton.  They were all his “babies” as he would say.  He is also survived by one sister and three brothers: Rosa Futch Bass of Monroe, Louisiana; Ike Futch and wife Brenda of West Monroe, Louisiana; Curtis Futch and wife Louise of Calhoun, Louisiana; and Joe Futch and wife Sue of Spearsville, Louisiana. He is survived by a sister-in-law, Jean Futch of Farmerville, Louisiana; and Carolyn Futch of Spearsville, a brother-in-law, Gary Puckett of Calhoun, Louisiana, along with a host of nieces and nephews.

Fred was a member of the Farmerville Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents: Joe & Martha Marie Smith Futch; brothers: Terry “Blue” Futch and Frankie Futch; sisters: Annie Futch Puckett and Kay Futch Scarborough. The funeral was held at the Farmerville Church of Christ on Thursday, December 28th, at 2 p.m. with visitation from 12:30 until time of service.  Brother Don DeLukie, Tommy Bennett and Kurt Auger officiating. Burial to follow at Liberty Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Farrar Funeral Home.

The family would like to thank Elara Caring and his special caregivers Taylor Allen, Shirley Taylor, Carrie Perry, Tonya (Tan) Lewis, Candace Lumsey and Nay Johnson. Pallbearers will be Luke Albritton, Hunter Futch, Trent Futch, Brian Scarborough and Kendall Wilson.  Honorary pallbearer Remington Futch.
