Farmerville Council to purchase mega ramp property for $250,000

The Farmerville Town Council voted Monday to purchase for $250,000 a tract of land on the north shore of Lake D’Arbonne and the east side of Highway 15 for construction of a mega boat ramp.

The mega ramp will be constructed on the north shore of Lake D’Arbonne, east of LA 33, on the 7.5-acre parcel of land outlined above in red .

The 7.5-acre tract of land was purchased from TTR LLC, a company whose local owners include Jered Ramsey, Leslie Towns III and Caskey Terral. The project is still in the planning phase and a timeline for construction has not been established, Farmerville Town Clerk Gay Nell Pepper said.

In that same meeting, Public Works Director Keith Jeselink reported that the Town will begin installing modern water meters  shortly after the new year begins that will more accurately measure water consumption, will alert the public works department of possible water leaks and, in most cases, will allow the town to start and stop service remotely.

Every meter on the town’s system will be replaced, Jeselink said, and it will likely take several months to install all the meters.

Jeselink also reported that the Town is in the final stages to obtaining nearly $1 million of funding to rehabilitate the water treatment and distribution system at Foster Farms, which the towns owns. The new system it will greatly improve the quality and quanity of water the  town delivers to Foster Farms.

Community Outreach Director Mary Barrios told the council that the annual Dia De La Familia celebration held in October drew about 1,000 people to the downtown area during the three-day event that was entirely funded by donations.
