Three airlifted following head-on crash in Farmerville

Three people had to be transported by helicopter to area hospitals following a head-on collision in Farmerville Tuesday morning.

Farmerville police responded at about 8:45 am to a report of a vehicle crash on Highway 15 between James Avenue and Camp Road and arrived few minutes later to find a 2012 gray Chevy Impala facing south in the northbound lane and a 2018 Chevy Silverado nearby. Both vehicles had sustained significant front-end damage, Officer Kassey Horton said.

Emergency medical professionals rush one of three people injured in a head-on collision in FarmervilleTuesday to a helicopter waiting outside the emergency room of Union General Hospital.

A subsequent investigation determined that the Silverado, driven by Juan Ramirez, 18, of Bryant, AR crossed the center line as it passed through a curve and struck the Impala.

All four occupants of the Impala were injured, including three that suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries, Horton said. The damage to the Impala was so severe, first responders could not open the vehicle’s doors until the Farmerville Fire Department arrived with an extractor.

The car’s driver, the front seat passenger and one of two backseat passengers were transported by ambulance to Union General Hospital before being transported by helicopter to different area hospitals for treatment. The Impala’s driver and front seat passenger were both wearing seatbelts, Horton said, but it was not clear whether the backseat passengers were restrained.

Horton said Ramirez was wearing a seatbelt and was uninjured, while his passenger was not restrained and suffered moderate facial injuries when he was thrown from his seat face first into the windshield.

Ramirez was cited for careless and wreckless driving, Horton said.
