SUMMARY:The Louisiana Baptist Singing Men
DESCRIPTION:On Thursday\, September 21\, 2023\, First Baptist Church of Farmerville will host the Louisiana Baptist Singing Men in concert at the church. This group consists of Music and Worship Pastors along with choir members from all over the state of Louisiana.  \n\n\n\nThe group sings once a month\, September through April\, in local churches throughout Louisiana. This group of men contains some of the very best male voices in the state. Many have masters degrees in music.  \n\n\n\nDr. Herb Armentrout\, Minister of Music at Broadmoor Baptist Church\, Shreveport\, has been directing the group for about 15 years. Enrollment for the group is heading toward 100. This means a healthy turnout of approximately fifty singers for any given concert.  \n\n\n\nThe Louisiana Baptist Singing Men was founded in 1974 by Carroll Lowe who at that time was the Music Secretary for the Louisiana Baptist Convention. LBSM continues to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ through music in prisons\, hospitals\, nursing homes\, schools and of course churches.  \n\n\n\nDarbonne Woods Charter School’s chapter for Fellowship of Christian Students will host LBSM at their school on the same day as the evening concert of September 21st. The concert is free and begins at 6:30. The public is invited. The church is located at 400 N\, Main Street in Farmerville. Frank Nihart\, worship pastor at FBC Farmerville\, is a member of the group and is excited about this opportunity for the Farmerville area.  \n\n\n\nThe concert will consist of arrangements of some classic standard gospel songs like “Just a Little Talk with Jesus” (contemporary arrangement)\, contemporary pieces including “I Got Saved” and majestic anthems such as “To Whom Will You Liken God”.  \n\n\n\nA free-will offering will be received during the concert. Every penny of the offering goes toward LBSM’s scholarship program. The group sponsors six students per year who are preparing for Church music and worship ministry. Three of the students attend Louisiana Christian University and three attend New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

DESCRIPTION:Through an exhibit of 77 historic photographs\, the Union Museum of History and Art is remembering the presidency of John F. Kennedy\, who died tragically 60 years ago this fall. Opening reception for the exhibit will be at 5 p.m. on Tuesday\, October 10\, and will feature a lecture by Ralph W. Brown\, Ph.D.\, professor of history at the University of Louisiana-Monroe. The event is free and open to the public. Dr. Brown’s talk will center on Kennedy’s background and his reception in North Louisiana. \n\n\n\nThe exhibit\, “American Visionary: John F. Kennedy’s Life and Times\,” is being loaned by the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. It brings together images culled from the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library\, Getty Images\, private collections\, and the Kennedy family archives. The dramatic scope of Kennedy’s life is evident in these photographs—from his first congressional bid as a decorated war hero in 1946\, his fairytale marriage to Jacqueline Bouvier in 1953\, his run for the White House in 1960 and role as commander in chief\, to the tragedy of his death in Dallas in 1963. These images remain as indelible evidence of John Kennedy’s personal charisma and political accomplishments. \n\n\n\nDr. Brown currently teaches courses that include the assassination of John F. Kennedy\, Louisiana History\, U.S. Military History\, 1865-present\, World War II\, History of Warfare\, History of England\, and Western Heritage. He received his B.A. and M.A. from James Madison University and his Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee\, Knoxville.

You will not want to miss this unique family friendly event held on the magical course of Candy Cane Lane Drive Thru Christmas Light Park in Calhoun\, Louisiana. Costumes are encouraged so wear your best ugly Christmas sweater\, have your group dress up as Santa’s reindeer or a team of North Pole elves! Costume contest winners will receive a prize! This is a stroller and wagon friendly event but strollers/ wagons must be collapsible. Please note\, the entire course is gravel. Register today for your chance to walk through this spectacular mile long Christmas light extravaganza before it opens for drive thru tours this holiday season! Registered participants will receive a race shirt and medal that doubles as a Christmas ornament. Stick around for post-race refreshments like hot chocolate\, candy canes\, and water plus a few other fun surprises! Registration is $35 per person for ages 11 and older. Registration comes with a race shirt and a finishers medal that doubles as a Christmas ornament. Children 10 and under are $1\, they will receive alternate swag instead of a race shirt.
