Both the boys and girls teams at
Union Christian Academy continue
to be the only high school teams in
Union Parish posting winning records
on the basketball court early
in the season.
The Lions won two of three
games last week to improve their
record to 7-4 overall. They opened
the week taking a 52-33 win over
Tallulah and MAIS District 6-A play.
In the Prairie View Tournament,
they hammered Franklin Academy
from Winnsboro by an 80-20 count
before falling to the tournament
host Spartans 54-51.
The Lady Lions went 1-1 on the
week, dropping their district opener
to Tallulah 43-19. They took a 49-29
win over Prairie View in the Lady
Spartans’ tournament.
After opening the season with
three straight wins, the Union Parish
boys’ team saw their record fall
to .500 after dropping three games
last week. The Fighting Farmers
hung close against perennial
Class C power Summerfield before
falling 54-49. They never found a
real rhythm in dropping a 65-41
contest against the host Vikings in
the Northside tournament. They
also fell to New Iberia 48-39 at the
Northside tournament.
After going 1-1 for the week, the
Lady Farmers’ record stands at 3-4.
They opened the week dropping a 46-
31 decision at Summerfield before
returning home to take a 54-33 win
against D’Arbonne Woods.
The Timberwolves are still looking
for their first win of the season
after four games. They only played
once in the past 10 days, losing 76-43
to Delhi Charter.
Going 0-3 in the past 10 days saw
the Lady Timberwolves record fall
to 4-5 on the season. They dropped a
close decision at Delhi Charter, 36-32
and also fell against Grace Christian
67-44 in addition to the loss against
UPHS.
Both teams at Downsville Community
Charter continue to struggle.
The Demons dropped their only
game in the past 10 days, falling to
St. Frederick 52-40. The Lady Demons
saw their losing streak reach
11 after a season-opening win. They
lost to St. Fred 39-12.
UCA has district games for both
teams this week, playing at Riverdale
and hosting Tensas.
Union Parish plays a boys/girls
doubleheader at Ruston on Tuesday.
The Farmers are part of the Minden
tournament December 13-16, while
the Lady Farmers take part in the
Castor tournament December 14-16.
The boys and girls teams at D’Arbonne
Woods have double headers
again at Cedar Creek on Monday
and host Downsville on Tuesday.
The boys are also scheduled to take
on Jonesboro-Hodge in the West
Ouachita tournament this weekend,
while the Lady Timberwolves take
part in the West Ouachita Tournament.
Downsville’s boys and girls have
a Tuesday night doubleheader at
D’Arbonne Woods.
