Mr. Ballard enjoyed a most rewarding and interesting life. From an early age he was a follower of Jesus. He served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher for First Baptist Church, Vicksburg.
He held several positions of responsibility with the Boy Scouts of America. He supported his wife and daughters with Girl Scout activities. He was a race walker, backpacker, and Dutch-oven cook. He liked being in the outdoors.
Jimmie, as his mother called him, earned engineering degrees from Louisiana Tech in Ruston and held professional licenses in Mississippi and Louisiana. He served as a member of the Army Scientific and Engineering Research Program. His high performance levels resulted in numerous achievement awards.
Of all the accolades on his bragging wall, he was most proud of a beginner six by nine inch cross-stitch made by a young daughter that reads “My dad is my best pal.”
The funeral was held at Riles Funeral Home Monday, August 19, 2013.
The remains were interned near those of his parents at the Conway Cemetery, Union Parish, LA. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please donate to your church or favorite charity.
