Funeral services for
Jack Gates, 91, of the Crossroads
community, were
held at 12 p.m. on Friday,
September 8, 2017, at Crossroads
Baptist Church. Officiating
the service was
Rev. Andy Johnson. Visitation
was held from 10 a.m.
until time of service at the
church. Interment followed
at Crossroads Cemetery
under direction of Kilpatrick
Funeral Home of
Farmerville.
Jack was born on March
5, 1926, in Union Parish,
and passed away on September
6, 2017. He was a
proud U.S. Marine serving
with the 5th Marine Division in Word War II. Jack was
retired from Riverwood, now Graphic Packaging, after 42
years of service. He could be seen daily riding his John
Deere lawn mower whether he was mowing or not. Heloved to fish, hunt and work in his garden.
He was preceded in death by: His parents, Ervin and
Elizabeth Gates, step-mother, Verda Gates; sister Evelyn
Tatum; brothers Ira, Dick, Coot, and Raymond Gates.
Survivors include his loving wife of 70 years, Mary
Jo Nolan Gates, daughter, Debbie Gates Dickerson and
husband Malcolm; son Dusty Gates and wife Camille;
four grandchildren Kristy Smith, Kelley Gates, Morgan
Lowery and husband Kyle and Stacie Watts and husband
Joe; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great
grandchildren; a brother James Gates, two sisters Shirly
Ganey Moncrief and Mary Lou Bollier and husband Cecil;
three sister in laws Lila Simpson, Betty Gates and Pat
Jordan, and numerous nieces and nephews.
