Funeral services for Alva A. “Sug” Shaw, age 83 of
Ruston were held at 2 p.m.
on Tuesday, March 28, 2017,
at Mineral Springs Baptist
Church with Bro. Greg
Tipton officiating. Burial
followed in Fellowship Baptist
Church Cemetery in
Dubach under the direction
of Owens Memorial Chapel
Funeral Home of Ruston.
Sug was born October 3,
1933, in Vernon and passed
away peacefully March 26,
2017, at Alpine Guest Care
in Ruston, LA.
Sug is survived by: His
loving wife of 62 years, Pat.
They were married January
14, 1955, at Emmanuel
Baptist Church in Ruston.
He is also survived by: His sons – Shorty Shaw and wife
June and Al Shaw; his daughter Amy Shaw Jones and
husband Scott; seven grandchildren – Jeremy Shaw and
wife Cherry of Dubach, Alexis Cross and husband Matt
of Ruston, Megan Taylor and husband Steven of New
Braunfels, Texas, Caleb Shaw and wife Amber of Victoria,
Texas, Corey Jones and wife Lauren of Dubach, Erin
Dehl and husband Collin of Choudrant and Colby Jones
of Baton Rouge; eight great-grandchildren – Taylor and
Emmalane Shaw, Paige and Payton Cross, Aubrey and
Brody Shaw, Brooklyn Jones, Weston Dehl and expected
arrival of Cameron Lee Shaw in June; his brother, Bud
“Dale” Shaw of Vernon; his sister, Ann Rhodes of Bossier
City; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by: His father, Arthur Chester
Shaw; his mother, Lois Juanita Gay Shaw; two sisters –
Juanita Shaw and husband Preston Chandler: sister Joan
Shaw; and brother-in-law: Jay Rhodes.
Sug enjoyed hunting with his grandsons, building withSug enjoyed hunting with his grandsons,
building with his hands and spending
time with his family. Sug retired from Davison
Transport after 25 years of employment.
Prior to his employment at Davison
Transport, he was self-employed as a
plumber in the Ruston area for many years.
Pallbearers were Jeremy Shaw, Caleb
Shaw, Corey Jones, Matt Cross, Steven Taylor
and Collin Dehl. Honorary pallbearer
will be Colby Jones.
Visitation was held from noon until
service time, Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at
Mineral Springs Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be
made to the Louisiana Baptist Children’s
Home in Monroe, LA. The address is 7200
Desiard Street, Monroe, LA 71203.
