Roland “Slim” Hill (05-05-2016)
Roland “Slim” D. Hill passed away on Thursday, April
28, 2016, in West Palm Beach, Florida, at the age of 96. He
was born on October 4, 1919, in Farmerville and graduated
from Louisiana Tech with a civil engineering degree.
He served as Lt. Commander in the U.S. Navy and
received many medals of honor, including the Asiatic-
Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal,
China Service Medal and the National Defense Service
Medal with bronze star. Roland retired after completing
his professional career as an engineer with the city of New
York and relocated to West Palm Beach, Florida.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May
7, 2016, at First Baptist Church of Farmerville, with Rev.
Kurt Auger officiating. Graveside services are to follow at
Farmerville Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick’s
Funeral Home of Farmerville with nephews and great
nephews serving as pallbearers.
He is preceded in death by: His wife, Evelyn Rupp Hill;
two brothers – Jack Hill and James P. Hill; and his parents,
Ellora Smith Hill and Leo Jack Hill.
He is survived by: Six nieces and nephews – James P.
Hill Jr. and wife, Louise, Lora Hicks and husband Leonard,
Kerry Hill and wife Donna, Abby Nelson and husband David,
Mary Anne Hill, Scott Hill and wife Ashlea; a sister-inlaw,
Mary D. Hill; and a host of great nieces and nephews.
