Graveside services for Byron Ray Barfield were held at 3
p.m. on Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at Forest Lawn Cemetery
in Ruston under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel
Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Phillip Farris.
Mr. Barfield was born in Bernice on April 5, 1937, to
Melvin and Honrie Barfield and passed away Monday,
March 21, 2016. Ray worked as Shop Manager for Davison
Transport the majority of his adult life. He thoroughly
enjoyed the outdoors and was always up for a trip to Toledo
Bend to set stump hooks or to Mr. Davison’s Bar K
Ranch in Carrizo Springs, TX. He was the best guide there
ever was. You could count on him to sharpen your knife
to a razor’s edge or sight in your rifle within a hair. Ray
was also a family man. He was the best husband, father,
grandfather, great grandfather and friend you could’ve
been blessed to know.
He is survived by: His wife of 56 years, Ruth Barfield; a
daughter Lisa and husband Paul Phillips; a granddaughter
Jessica and husband Joey Beavers; two great grandsons
– Jax Lee Beavers and Abel Paul Beavers; a sister, Jean
Clement; a brother, Bart Barfield; a sister in law, Pricilla
Barfield; as well as multiple nieces, nephews, cousins
and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donation be
made to an account set up at Origins Bank for the “Ray
Barfield Benefit” account #20734554. All donations will be
contributed to the Lincoln Parish Sheriff ’s Office to fund
programs to better our community.
Visitation was held from 1-3 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22,
2016, at Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.
