Peggy Manning Rockett (03-17-2016)

Funeral services for Peggy Manning Rockett, 81, were
held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at First
Baptist Church of Spearsville under the direction of Farrar
Funeral Home of Farmerville. Interment followed
at Camp Creek Cemetery, fi ve miles south of Spearsville,
where most of her ancestors are buried.
Mrs. Rockett was born the daughter of Tatum and
Ora Ward Manning in Union Parish, near Spearsville,
where she resided most of her life. She was a member
of the First Baptist Church and the Ruth Sunday school
class since 1963.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by:
Her daughter, Kathy Rockett McDonald of El Dorado,
Ark.; a brother, Wayne A. Manning of Camp Creek; and
her sister, Gwen M. Carraway of Shreveport; and nephew
Danny Manning of Camp Creek.
She is survived by: Her son Ricky Rockett and his wife
Edie of Spearsville; her granddaughter, Angela McDonald
of Siloam Springs, Ark.; her two grandsons – Rusty Rockett
of Ruston along with Josh Rockett and his wife Donna of
Spearsville and their two children, Jackson Rockett and Julia
Rockett; her sister-in-law, Joyce Manning of Camp Creek; her
nephew; nieces Debbie Aycock and husband Ronny of Springhill,
Dawn Manning of Shreveport and Paula Richardson
and husband, Rob of Robeline; as well as several great nieces,
great nephews and a host of friends and family.
Peggy was a retired homemaker and later worked at
various things including the “Green Thumb” Government
program and writing a news column for The Bernice Banner.
She researched and wrote two genealogy booklets and
her last years she was a member of the Town Council in
Spearsville. Her hobbies were ceramics, patio gardening,
sewing and bird watching from her kitchen window in the
sanctuary she made for them in her back yard.
Pallbearers were Rusty Rockett, Josh Rockett, Mike
Rockett, Jim Rhodes, Ronnie Aycock and Joe McDonald.
Visitation was 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at
First Baptist Church of Spearsville.
