Funeral services for
Shelby Joe Pickel, 67,
of Marion, were held
at 10 a.m. on Thursday,
November 19, 2015, at
Fairview Church of
Christ in Marion with
Bro. Cullen Smith officiating.

Cemetery in Marion,
under direction of Kilpatrick
Joe, retired from
CenturyTel, went to
his heavenly home on
November 16, 2015. He
was a lifelong resident of Union Parish, graduate of
Farmerville High School and member of Fairview
Church of Christ. Joe was a Veteran of the Vietnam
Theatre (Sargent E5) stationed in Fairbanks, AK. He
also was a 4th degree Black Belt in Isshinryu Karateand taught numerous students over the course of more
than 15 years.
Aside from his grandchildren, Joe’s greatest passion
was hunting. He was an avid turkey hunter but also
loved hunting deer. Joe not only taught turkey calling
and such, he taught others to love the outdoors the same
way he did.
He is preceded in death by: His father, James A. Pickel.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 47 years
Sharon Pickel; his mother, Eddice Pickel; three children
– daughter Natasha Pickel son Jay Pickel and wife Brandy
and daughter, Nadia Farris and husband Joey; seven
grandchildren – Tyler Holloway, Austin and Shelby Dalton
Spillers, Alayna and Lindsey Fuller, and Cally and James
Pickel; a sister LaJune Edwards; two brothers – James
“Bubba” Pickel and wife Vicky of Sulphur Springs, Texas,
and Jerry Pickel; as well as numerous nieces, nephews,
friends and family.
Pallbearers were Tommy Head, Michael Thomas, Greg
Edwards, John Preaus, Glen Post III, Rich Lee, Dickey Cole
and Lyndon Carpenter.
Honorary Pallbearers are Jimmy Blake, Jed Rhodes,
Lanny Parker, Stein Baughman, Malcolm George, grandsons
Visitation was from 5-8 p.m. on November 18, 2015, at
