Homer Claude Hollis (12-04-2014)
Homer Claude Hollis, 81, of Spearsville, died November 13, 2014 in Bernice.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, December 4, 2014, at Antioch Church of Christ in Spearsville, officiated by Bro. Tommy Bennett and Bro. John Saunders under the direction of Farrar Funeral Home of Farmerville.
Claude was born August 12, 1933 to Homer and Ilene Sanders Hollis in Lillie, Louisiana. Through his junior year of high school, he attended school in Spearsville. In order to play ball, Claude transferred his senior year to Junction City, Ark., where he played on both the football and basketball teams. After graduating from Junction City High School, he joined and served four years in the United States Navy.
Trained as a welder, Claude worked at his trade in Monroe and Shreveport. After his retirement, he moved to Spearsville and spent much of his time using his welding talent to create art objects that he gifted to family and friends. Very talented at creating beautiful gardens, Claude spent hours cultivating beautiful flowers, building garden paths, designing and building a lovely garden bridge and landscaping a large fish pond where family and friends gathered to enjoy the beauty and the fish.
He is preceded in death by: His parents, Homer and Ilene Hollis; a brother, Kelly Ray Hollis; and nephews Mark Hollis and Jeremy Hollis.
He is survived by: A sister, Jean P. Heine of New York, NY; a brother, Rudolph Hollis and wife, Marilyn of Lowell, Ark.; sister-in-law, Carolyn Hollis Sledge of DeBerry, Texas; niece, Kimberly Province of Porter, Texas; nephews Fran Perdue and wife Phylis of Little Rock, Ark., and David “Bubba” Hollis of DeBerry, Texas; special great nephew Adam Perdue; as well as many more nephews, family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
Visitation will be 12 p.m. until time of service at the church.
