Billy Joe Tuten (08-07-2014)
A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Billy Joe Tuten, age 76 of Baton Rouge, was held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 1, 2014, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Baton Rouge. Celebrating the mass was the Rev. Thomas P. Duhé. Visitation was held from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial followed on Monday, August 18, 2014 at Farmerville City Cemetery in Farmerville under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.
Mr. Tuten was Born in Farmerville Louisiana December 6, 1937 to Sarah B. Barham Tuten and Joesph D Tuten. While at home with his family, his passed this life peacefully into his Heavenly Father’s arms, July 30, 2014.
Billy Joe lived in Baton Rouge Louisiana for the past 39 years. He was a graduate of Louisiana Tech University in Ruston and was a chemical engineer for Ciba-Geigy with a career of 28 years of outstanding service at the St Gabriel Plant. Throughout his career, Billy Joe was credited with many accomplishments due to his leadership. However, it was his dedication, integrity, and good nature that will be remembered most. He enjoyed hunting and fishing his entire life, always returning to his hometown, where he grew up for each hunting season and maybe a little fishing . Being in the woods or on the water was his quiet time, he referred to as his “retreat and the closest place to God on earth”. In 2004, Billy Joe joined the Catholic Church via the RCIA process (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults). Bill stated his experience to be very enjoyable and exceeded all his expectations and was at total peace with becoming Catholic. He loved being part of this Faith community. His only regret was that he waited so long.

Bill is survived by: His wife Nancy Jean Tuten; step-mother Mildred Tuten; children – Patrick J. Tuten and wife Jenifer, Deborah and husband Kenny Mangrum, Janet and husband Charles Laenger, Jennifer and husband David Rincon, James Edgar Ayo Jr. and wife Raye-Anne; grandchildren – Seth Mangrum, Kristen Mangrum, Jessie Mangrum, Justin Roddenberry, Ana Maria Rincon Ethan David Rincon, Ava Marie Rincon, Sarah Katherine Laenger, Emily Anne Laenger, Peter James Ayo, Austin James Ayo and Matthew James Ayo; brothers: two brothers – Allen Tuten and wife Marybelle and Jim Tuten and wife Linda; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Thomas More School in Baton Rouge.
