Photo of John Elzy ParksFuneral services for Mr. John Elzy Parks of Sterlington, Louisiana were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at the Spencer Baptist Church near Sterlington, with Bro. Jerry Fletcher officiating.  Interment followed at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery at Haile, under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop.
Mr. Parks was born in the Spencer community of Union Parish on July 31, 1928, to the late Edna Roberson Parks and Stephen Lester Parks.  He passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at the Northeast Louisiana War Veterans Home in Monroe. He was a member of the Spencer Baptist Church and a retired school bus driver for Union Parish.  He was also a veteran of the United States Navy.
Mr. Parks is preceded in death by: His wife, Ossie Ray Parks; his parents - Stephen and Edna Parks; a brother, Earl Raymond Parks; two sisters – Thelma Cascile Parks and Sadie Kathleen Labrano; and a great-grandson, Caiden Ryan Gunter.
He is survived by: His brother, Lester S. Parks and his wife, Elaine; a granddaughter, Debbie Goyne and her husband, Bruce: grandson Ricky Halterman and his wife, Becky; four great-grandchildren – Chad Womack and his wife, Ashley, Dana Gavin and her husband, Roy, Brooke Goyne and Bryan Halterman and his wife, Victoria; and four great-great-grandchildren, Makenzie Gunter, Kailyn Gunter, Kamryn Goyne, and Landri Womack.
Serving as pallbearers were Ronnie Jones, Mike Jones, Roger Aaron, Charles Thomas, Chuck Thomas, and Buddy Hollis.
Honorary pallbearers were Wes Green and Jimmy Gathright.
The family received friends Monday, April 7, 2014 from 5- 8 p.m. at Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop.  Also, visitation were held from 12 p.m. until service on Tuesday, April 8 at the Spencer Baptist Church.
