Union advances, while DíArbonne, Díville out
If past history is any indication
of future success, the Union Parish
Farmers might be primed for a run
to the Class 3A championship game.
The Farmers were on the road
Tuesday night to take sixth-seeded
South Beauregard in the second
round of the Allstate Sugar Bowl/
Louisiana High School Athletic Association
Union pushed its record to 16-13
with a 63-59 win at home against
The last time the Farmers made
it past the first round of the playoffs,
they advanced to the championship
game where they dropped a 68-64
game against District 2-3A rival Carroll.
The Farmers were one-and-done
following the regular season in 2016
and 2014 and missed the playoffs with
a 2-22 mark in 2015.
All five teams from 2-3A advanced
with first-round wins last week. Carroll
and Richwood both advanced,
with wins over Iota and Patterson,
respectively. The Bulldogs, seeded
second in the power rankings, and
19th-ranked Rams split a pair of
games during district play. The
winner of that game will face the
Union-South Beauregard winner in
the third round.
Wossman, the three seed, advanced
by hammering Bolton in a
98-21 (yes, thatís right) win and will
face Brusly, the 15th seed, at home.
Madison advanced with a win
against Mansfield. The number five
seed will host Iowa, the 12th seed.
DíArbonne Woods suffered its
tenth straight loss in bowing out in
the first round after a 96-46 loss to
White Castle. The Timberwolves,
seeded 29th in Class A, finished the
season with a 5-23 mark. In his two
season as head coach at DWCS, coach
Antarian Griffin has a .111 winning
percentage, with a 6-48 record overall
and a 1-27 mark in District 2-A.
It was one-and-done for the Downsville
Community Charter School
Demons, as they fell 72-43 to Starks.
DCCS found out just before their
first round game that their seeding
had improved to 23rd after a team
ahead of them in the power rankings
opted to not take part in the playoffs.
Second-year coach David Scott had
the Demons perhaps playing their
best ball late in the season as they
won two of their last four games to
finish with a 6-33 overall record.
Much like Union Parish, Downsville
Community Charter competes
in a district where all teams that
qualified advanced. Summerfield is
the top seed in Class C, with Gibsland-
Coleman coming in at four. In the Division
5 select bracket, New Living Word
qualified as the number seven seed.
